Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry

At Sheppard Jane Dental Clinic, we offer sedation dentistry for anxious and phobic clients. Dental phobia is one of the main reasons for clients to put off their appointments. We strive to make your appointment a pleasant one in a stress- free environment. Regardless of the type of work being done, you have an option to chose from several options to make your appointment comfortable.

Inhalation sedation

Nitrous oxide is the most common forms of sedation used in North America. Nitrous oxide is used to ease mild to moderate anxiety. Recovery is quick so you can resume your normal activities immediately.

Oral sedation

An extremely common technique which does not require needles. You will be given a prescription pill which, taken about an hour before your appointment, will have you fully relaxed by the time you arrive at our office.

Intravenous (IV) Sedation

IV sedation is a form of deep conscious sedation where an anti-anxiety medication is administered directly into the blood stream. With IV sedation you remain conscious and become deeply relaxed throughout your dental appointment, and are able to cooperate and respond to instructions. It is recommended that patients who receive conscious sedation have a parent, spouse, or friend accompany them to appointments because it can take several hours for the sedative to wear off and driving may be unsafe.

Benefits of Sedation Dentistry

Complex dental procedures that normally require multiple visits can often be performed in fewer appointments because people often feel like their dental procedure lasts only a few minutes, when in fact it might have taken hours to perform.

It can make you feel comfortable during any complicated or lengthy treatment process and reduce your anxiousness.

Increased client acceptance of the treatment recommended as their dental fears are addressed. They are less likely to neglect their oral health or allow oral health problems to build to the point when drastic dental treatments become necessary.

Call us today to find out if your treatment can be performed in any of the options presented above!
